The "Curiosities" series is a collection of folk art paintings that combine traditional Korean folk art symbols and American symbols. The title is inspired by cabinets of curiosities that were popular in the 16th century. Cabinets of curiosities were collections of notable objects and were often used by the elite to establish rank in society. Cabinets would usually include objects from cultures that were considered "other." This series is a commentary on the concept of "other," and explores my own curiosities as a biracial Korean-American woman.
